Offering meals to those experiencing homelessness, the socially isolated or those who just need a helping hand, HavenWell in Victoria Park is a caring and safe place for people to visit for a warm meal and a chat with one of the friendly team of volunteers. It’s a place where those who need a helping hand can receive comfort without judgement.
Plenty are excited to announce that HavenWell have come on-board as a Community Program Partner. This collaboration will provide funding for HavenWell’s extraordinary food relief program, a program that relies heavily on donations and a volunteer workforce to operate.
“It’s definitely more than just a meal,” says Joan Sutherland, founder of HavenWell. “HavenWell is about building relationships with the people who visit us and allowing them to feel relaxed.”
“HavenWell is a place where people can come if they’re struggling. It’s a place where people are safe. No one in this country should ever go hungry.”
Starting with a $5 note donation handed to Joan, HavenWell has grown into an organisation with the capacity to offer up to 200 meals per day, five days per week, as well as delivering fresh food and dry food hampers to community members in need.
“Our goal is to operate a successful meal gifting service in order to create a reliable and long-term funding stream for our Community Program Partners,” shares Plenty founder & Purpose Director, Anushka van der Veen.
“Too often, organisations like HavenWell divert energy and focus from critical services to undertake fundraising activities. Our goal is to see that the profits from our meal gifting service ease funding pressures for HavenWell, and allow them to continue to do more of what they do best — caring for some of the most vulnerable members of the community we live in.”
